ACC Football Live: Duke Blue Devils vs. #10 Clemson Tigers



It's the Battle of the Two' s as the Duke Blue Devils (6-3, 3-2) host the Clemson Tigers (7-1, 4-1) at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, N.C.

Both teams are in second place in their respective division in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).

Clemson holds a 35-16-1 series lead between the two teams and is 14-12 with games played at Wallace Wade Stadium.

Kickoff coming up.

1st Quarter:

  • Clemson starts of with a huge gain of 26 yards on a rushing play by Ellington
  • The Tigers continue to gain yards on the ground before Boyd finds Brown with a 34-yard strike to the Duke eight-yard line
  • Clemson scores its first touchdown of the game as Boyd connects with Hopkins - PAT is good
  • The Tigers lead 7-0 after completing an 8 play, 76-yard drive
  • Duke's Lee Butler gains 17 yards on the kickoff return
  • Sean Renfree goes to work handing it off to Josh Snead who gains 12 yards on the play
  • Renfree with a swing pass to Conner Vernon for a 7-yard gain and Duke continues to move the ball up the field
  • Renfree completes a 15-yard gain with a pass to Jamison Crowder
  • Another pass to Vernon for 12 yards gets the Blue Devils to the Clemson 27-yard line
  • Renfree can't make any more headway, so Ross Martin comes in for the field goal attempt
  • Martin's kick is good from 46 yards - Clemson leads 7-3 with 8:44 to play
  • Clemson starts on its own 25-yard line and begins the drive with three straight run plays before Boyd connects with Hopkins again for a 58-yard strike and touchdown as Duke's Ross Cockrell can't get a hand on it
  • Clemson leads 14-3 with 7:25 to play
  • Butler returns the kick to the Duke 22-yard line
  • Off the snap Renfree wastes no time as he airs it out 77 yards to Crowder who takes it to the house for the touchdown
  • After Martin's PAT, Duke's two play, 77-yard drive has them trailing Clemson 14-10 with 7:02 to play
  • Clemson works the ball up gradually and slowly until Boyd throws another strike for 45 yards to Hopkins again - PAT is good and the Tigers lead 21-10 with 4:49 to play
  • Duke's drive comes up fruitless with two rushes for eight yards and an incomplete pass - forced to punt by Monday
  • Clemson's Boyd trying to move it on the ground and then passes it for 22 yards to Watkins
  • Boyd keeps it himself and rushes it to the Duke 27-yard line
  • Boyd connects on another throw to Watkins for  a 30-yard touchdown - Clemson now leads 28-10 with 16 seconds to play
  • After a touchback, Duke moves the ball on the ground - Snead rushes for 13 yards 
2nd Quarter:

  • Renfree starts quickly with a 37-yard pass to Crowder who gets stopped at the Clemson 25-yard line
  • Two plays later, Brandon Connette comes in like he has to gain some yards on the ground, but instead he throws a lob to Reeves who runs it in for the touchdown
  • Martin's PAT is good - Clemson lead cut down to 28-17 with 13:12 to play's
  • Clemson's Watkins returns the kick for 19 yards and the Tigers drive begins
  • After consecutive rushes for 11 and five yards respectively, a big gain of 22 yards in the air to Hopkins is fumble and Duke gets the ball back on its own 41-yard line
  • Renfree starts the drive with a handoff to Snead but Duke can't complete a pass on the next two downs and Monday punts it away - still 28-17 for Clemson with 11:08 to play
  • Clemson starts with the ball on its own 28-yard line and Boyd starts with a rushing play to Howard for seven yards
  • A throw in the air to Watkins keeps the chains moving along with another rush from Howard
  • Boyd throws a 41-yard strike to Bryant and Clemson now leads 35-17 with the successful PAT - 9:29 to play 
  • On the ensuing Duke possession, Renfree tries to throw a 50+ yard strike to Vernon, but he's got two Tigers around him - incomplete pass on the play
  • Jela Duncan rushes for four yards before Renfree is sacked for a 13-yard loss back to the Duke 6-yard line - Monday comes on to punt for the Blue Devils
  • Clemson will start its next drive on the Duke 42-yard line 
  • On the first down, Duke's Walt Canty comes up with the interception on Boyd's attempted pass - Duke will start with the ball back on its own 21-yard line
  • Connette comes in to gains short yardage
  • Renfree's attempted pass to Vernon draws a flag on the play - Duke first down at its own 36-yard line
  • Duke gains a first down and enters Clemson side of the field - 3:28 to play
  • The Blue Devils can't gain a first down and are forced to punt it away again
  • Clemson starts at its own 16-yard line - point of where Monday's punt went out of bounds
  • Blue Devils containing Clemson offense for first time this game even after Boyd gains 18 yards on the ground
  • Duke is flagged for pass interference on the next play and Clemson has another first down at the 50-yard line
  • Boyd completes a pass to Watkins for 30 yards by the Duke sideline - play is under review
  • Play stands and Boyd then takes the snap and runs it in for 21-yards for the touchdown - his sixth of the half, let alone the game - Clemson leads 42-17 with 1:49 to play
  • Renfree moving the chains for first down with passes to Vernon and Desmond Scott - starting next play on his own 47-yard line
  • Clemson defense sacks Renfree for an eight-yard loss and then he's intercepted on the next play -
  • Correction - no interception - Duke's Monday punts it away
  • The Tigers will start with the ball on their own 28-yard line - still leading 42-17 with 29 seconds to play 
  • Boyd moves the chains on two successive plays before trying to throw it long - pass is intercepted by Duke's Butler - play ends the half
 End of 1st half: Clemson 42, Duke 17
3rd Quarter:

  • Duke starts the quarter with the ball on its own 23-yard line
  • Renfree can't work the offense far enough ahead for a first down and Monday comes in to punt it away 
  • The Tigers start with the ball on their own 35-yard line and Boyd hands it to Howard for a 14-yard rush
  • After an incomplete pass, Boyd throw another interception to Duke's Ross Cockrell - his fifth pick of the season
  • Connette begins the drive for Duke and gains six yards quickly
  • Incomplete passes complemented with penalty flags against Duke force another punt situation
  • Clemson starts on its own 35-yard line - still leading 42-17 with 10:21 to play
  • Boyd works the offense to gain four first downs before handing it off to Howard who runs it in for a short yard to score another touchdown - Clemson lead extends to 49-17 with 6:53 to play
  • Renfree starts Duke at its 24-yard line and works to earn consecutive first downs - second one comes after a 15-yard pass to Vernon
  • Duke continues to move the chains, gaining two more first downs and gets the ball to the Clemson 29-yard line before Martin kicks a 47-yard field goal
  • Clemson lead now is 49-20 with 1:56 to play
  • The Tigers sub Boyd out for a new quarterback Cole Stoudt who starts the drive at the Clemson 14-yard line
  • Stoudt runs the offense to gain three first downs on his first series of plays in the game
  • End of the quarter and Clemson begins the fourth on the Duke 42-yard line
 4th Quarter:

  • Stoudt makes a bold play and keeps it himself to gain 25 yards for another first down at the Duke 17-yard line
  • Clemson runs the ball three straight times before Stoudt connects with Peake on a 12-yard throw into the end zone
  • After the successful PAT, Clemson extends its lead to 56-20 with 13:16 to play
  • Connette begins the Duke offense and goes with the option to start - a modest two-yard gain
  • Renfree with an incomplete pass to Vernon on the second down tries to look for him long, but is sacked for 14 yards on the play - Duke punts it back to Clemson
  • The Tigers begin their drive on their 45-yard line looking to add to their 36-point lead 
  • Two short run plays and a short pass and the Tigers have to punt it away
  • Duke gets the ball back on its own 19-yard line
  • Anthony Boone in at QB and Shaquille Powell in at RB for Duke - picks up short yardage on subsequent downs
  • Boone throws and incomplete pass and Monday comes on once more to punt the ball back to Clemson
  • Stoudt starts the Clemson drive on their 37-yard line - gets a first down after the first two plays then throws 10 yards and 17 yards for two more first downs
  • Tigers drive loses momentum as a 4th and 7 doesn't translate into a first down - Duke ball with  4:06 to play and Clemson still leading 56-20
  • Boone works the chains up to the Clemson 40-yard line after four straight rushes from Powell and two Clemson penalties (20 yards)
  • Boone trying to put one in the air to Schneider after a Powell 13-yard run, but it's too high
  • Duke offense working hard to score but cant convert on passing plays and then Boone is sacked for loss on fourth down and 5 at the Clemson 21-yard line
  • Clock winds down
