Teeing off against cancer in Raleigh

The Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic tees off on Sunday at Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C.

Area golfers and donors along with celebrities like Scotty McCreery, Charles Barkley, NC State basketball coaches Mark Gottfried and Kelly Harper, Carolina Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller along with players Joe Corvo and Chad LaRose and many others will tee off at 9:30 a.m.

Tickets are available to the public for only $5.

With a great weather forecast, there is not a better chance to support the V Foundation in generating funds to support cancer research while strolling the fairways on a Sunday.

Summer updates from the Triangle

With college football season starting up, the entire cycle of sports at Triangle-area universities is starting to churn again.

Even though football will take precedence and attention during the Fall at NC State, UNC, and Duke, there are dozens of teams at all three schools preparing for their respective seasons.

As the 2012 Summer Olympic Games are headed into the final stretch and will culminate in much excitement for all competing countries - spectators in attendance and everyone watching from around the world will be able to revel in all that sport has to offer.

Competition. Camaraderie. Exhilaration. Agony.

Winning is not the only thing, but knowing how well you are prepared to be tested under extreme and high-pressure circumstances is paramount.

As one sport competition reaches its pinnacle, others are just beginning to build up to theirs.
