Wrapping up second-round action in Greenboro, N.C., the #7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish meet up with the #10 Xavier Musketeers in what promises to be another closely-contested ame in this year's Tournament

1st half:

Xavier starts the game off with a dunk from Kenny Frease and is soon followed up by a three-pointer from TU Holloway - Musketeers ahead 5-0 with just over 18 minutes to play
Xavier doesn't slow down and pushes the lead to 7-0 as Notre Dame continues to struggle in its shooting and turning the ball over
The Irish finally get on the boars with a three-pointer from Eric Atkins - 7-3 Xavier with 16:35 to play
Notre Dame connects on another three-point shot and the lead is only one
The Irish eventually tie it at 8-8 before Exvier hits another run and outscore the Irish 8-1 and take the lead 16-9 with 13:06 to go

Duke has changed is defense to a zone which is effective so far this half in slowing down the Lehigh offense
Duke misses on their possession but Knutson gets an offensive rebound, the score and the foul - brings Lehigh to within one with 16:22 remaining

Rivers comes down and tries a three-pointer and he gets fouled - goes to the line to shoot three and he hits two of them - trail by three - 67-64 with 28.6 to go

Knutson is fouled and shoots two and scores both - extends lead to 71-64 with 16.3 seconds to play

2012 NCAA Tournament: Greensboro second-round review

The top-seeded Tar Heels hold the home-court advantage at the Greensboro Coliseum as the stands are awash in Carolina Blue and will present the #16 Vermont Catamaounts a great test and experience during this game being played on Friday during second-round play in the 2012 NCAA Men's Championship Tournament.

#16 Vermont Catamounts warm-up before tipping off against #1 North Carolina

1st half:

Due to technical difficulties, this game is in progress with five minutes remaining in the first half

Note: John Henson is not playing in this game today

The Tar Heels lead the Catamounts 26-19 abut the top-seed in the Midwest Regional is having to work hard to kee ahead of the scrappy Catamounts
Carolina's offense continues to be complemented with long-range three-point baskets but is not dominating Vermont at this point
Vermont is really being tested against the Tar Heels and their endurance continues to be pushed to the limit during the first half of play
Believe it or not, both teams shooting close to the same percentage (UNC - 39%, Vermont - 35%) as both teams are still trading baskets - Tar Heels leading 33-23 with 1:12 to play
Not to mislead the situation - North Carolina is controlling the pace of this game and hasn't blown it wide open yet because they are not shooting well
For the Catamounts, great and gutsy play from Sandro Carissimo is keeping his team closer to the Tar Heels than may have been expected
North Carolina taking advantage of using its size and experience in the paint, scoring 18 points under the basket and adding 13 points from Vermont turnovers

Carolina starts with the ball and works a nice shot in early as McAdoo drops a little jumper
Vermont has been playing a zone defense throughout the game against the Tar Heels and and have created some turnovers - few
Tar Heels are denying the Catamounts scoring opportunities but they are missing their share of easy opportunities as well
Vermont only trailing by 10 points - 39-29 with 16:36 to play
Carolina begins to t pick up the pace and tightening up defensively as the Catamounts' Pat Bergmann is rejected by Zeller on the lay-up - crowd cheering loudly
Tar Heels leading 46-33 with 12:36 to play in the half
Slowly the Tar Heels are dropping shots and extending their lead to 51-35 with under 10 minutes to play
P.J. Hairston hits a three that hits all twine and Carolina now leads the Catamounts by 20 with 8:33 to go
Harrison Barnes working hard under the basket and scores a basket and gets the foul and finishes the three point play
Vermont not out of it as they hit a three-pointer but not before Zeller and Justin Watts score uncontested back-to-back baskets - Tar Heels leading 64-40 now
Vermont fighting for respect and score as Four McGlynn gets two - not as many as he scored against Lamar though

The Crimson Tide come into today's game playing in its first NCAA Tournament game since 2006 and will face a Bluejays team that is effective around the perimeter and from three-point land.

Alabama hits its first shot - 2-0 w/ 18:24 to go

Alabama climbing back in it to tie the score 7-7 with 13:46 left

Marshall tries to drive the lane but doesn't get it, but Goodlett rebounds but still can't score
Mincy comes down the other way and scores a jumper from the left side

Maryland starts the half and Thomas starts off with a quick two points
GT still trying to penetrate and Marshall drives the baseline to score two of her own
The Terps turn it over and GT with possession and Walthour launches a three over Mincy as GT takes the lead with 18:30 to go
Barrett finds time to launch a three-pointer of her own - the team's first of the game
Walthour drives and misses but Goodlett gets the rebound and the foul - she hits the FT - GT leads 35-34 with 17:50 to go
Kizer scores two quickly and FT brings the ball up with a foul call on Thomas
GT forced to put it up and the Terps cause them to turn the ball over
Thomas makes a drive and pops a shot to score two to extend the Terps lead to 38-35 with 17 minutes to play
Marshall goes right at Thomas and scores on the layup - one-point lead for Maryland
Barrett misses a three but GT fouls and keep the ball
Kizer missess and GT come the other way and Regans hits a short jumper in the middle - Yellow Jackets take the lead
Maryland turns it over and Walthour makes them pay for it with a layup as a result of the mid-court trap - Yellow Jackets lead 41-38 with 15:28 to play in the half

GT with the ball and having trouble at first to penetrate inside he arc but Marshall pops one along the baseline over Thomas - GT leading 43-40 with 14:19 to play
Terps with the ball and trying to work off against a tight FT defense in the paint - offensive set-up has slowed - missed jumper by Thomas
GT tries to push the ball down the floor quickly but turns it over
Mincy misses a three-pointer but Walthour misses a shot as well and Maryland heads upcourt
Kizer misses for Maryland and then Goodlett drive the paint and spins to shoot and is fouled - she hits one of two and GT leads 44-40 with 12:11 to play
Maryland's Kim Rodgers tries to put one up and is fouled - she scores both FT's and the GT lead is two
GT with the ball and tries to push it inside and Terps' Hawkins is called for a foul
Yellow Jackets now lead 45-43 with 11:27 to go and they bring the ball down the floor - turn it over
Maryland at the FT line with Rodgers lining the shots up and scores both - tie game 45-45 with 10:45 to play
Maye tried to drive the lane and is intercepted by Barrett - Terps go up the floor and Thomas is open to score two points
Yellow Jackets work the ball up at the top and Marshall puts a three-point attempt up but misses - Regans gets the rebound
Thomas comes back with a jump shot and scores again - 49-47 Maryland lead with under 10 minutes to play
Goodlett goes up for two and is fouled by Hawkins - goes to the FT line - misses the first and hits the second
Terps bring the ball up and works it inside to Thomas again as she scores
Marshall driving in, out, left and right and is fouled by Mincy - at the FT line she hits both and GT trails by one 51-50 with eight minutes to play
Rodgers hits a big three-pointer to put Maryland up by four points
Goodlett puts up two in the point but not before Rodgers hits another three-pointer - wow!
GT comes down and Marshall misses her shot and Maryland has the ball and 57-52 lead with 6:52 to play
Barrett at the FT line for the Terps - she hits both to extend the lead
GT bringing the ball up and looking to get it inside to Goodlett who gets fouled - she goes to the FT line and hits one of two
Kizer picks up the rebound and Maryland brings the ball up and Mincy drives, Kizer misses and GT goes the other way
Marshall scores a baseline layup and goes to the line for he extra FT shot and she finishes it - Maryland now leads 59-56 with 5:44 to play
Terps inbound with GT press on but they clear up to half court and Thomas misses a shot but Maryland rebounds and keeps the ball
Still with the ball, Maryland's Mincy puts a shot up but a shot clock violation gets the ball to GT
Yellow Jackets bring the ball down but turn it over and Maryland comes back up court
Thomas gets a layup in the lane and extends the Terps lead to five points - 61-56
Kizer fouls Goodlett who goes to the FT line - she hits both shots and cuts into the Terps lead - trailing by three with four minutes to play
Marshall steals it from Hawkins and GT looks to chip further into the Maryland lead - 61-58 with 3:59 to play
GT brings the ball down the court and Marshall hits her signature baseline jumper and its a one-point game
Maryland taking its time to set up and Thomas cant score and the Yellow Jackets deny Marshall a shot - Regans fouls and Terps go to the FT line
Devaughn misses he FT and GT has the ball again still trail by one
Marshall puts up the shot and GT now leads 62-61 with 2:15 to play
Goodlett steals it from Thomas and the Yellow Jackets drive it down the floor and they get the foul by Rodgers
Marshall at the FT line for GT - she misses the first but hits the second - GT leads 63-61 with two minutes to play
Maryland comes down and Kizer works it inside with the layup and ties the game
GT setting up the offense and looking to working it inside and the Yellow Jackets can't score
Barrett goes up the floor and scores to give Maryland the lead - 65-63 with 56.5 seconds left to go
GT with the ball off a missed shot and rebound
Marshall with the ball on top and into Goodlett, back out and back it, but GT can't score on the play
Terps have the ball with 22.7 seconds to go and the lead is still two points
Thomas is fouled and shooting at the FT line - she hits both and he lead is four points
GT tried to drive the lane by Walthour - confusion on the call - travel or foul?
Maryland gets the ball and expect GT to foul
Instead GT intercepts the inbound pass and the Terps foul on the play
Marshall at the FT line - she hits both shots and it's 67-65 for Maryland with 12.7 seconds to play
Terps have ball possession and will have to inbound against another tight GT press
Tight defense on he play and GT fouls Barrett to put her at the FT while Regans fouls out for GT
Barrett at the FT line - she hits one of two and GT gets the ball and calls timeout with 5.7 seconds remaining trailing by three-points
